About Cannon Angus Ranch

Generations of Angus, Built for the Real World

Cannon Angus Ranch is a 4th-generation family operation based in Preston, Idaho. We raise Registered Black Angus cattle focused on structure, longevity, and profit-driven performance. Built on decades of hands-on ranching, our program is driven by discipline, not trends — and grounded in a commitment to doing things right, year after year.

Our Ranch History

Cannon Angus Ranch was founded in 2014 with just 20 cows, a vision, and a whole lot of work ahead. Today, that same family-run operation has grown to over 120 head of Registered Black Angus — built one season, one calf crop, and one honest decision at a time.

Our story begins with John Cannon, who grew up surrounded by cattle and wide-open range. He built this program from the ground up with the values he learned early on: take care of your stock, take pride in your name, and never cut corners.

Every acre and every animal here represents a deeper purpose — to raise cattle that work and to build something worth passing down.

Breeding Program

At Cannon Angus Ranch, our breeding program is centered on one goal: producing cattle that perform in the real world. We don’t chase fads — we stay focused on the kind of bulls and females that thrive in commercial operations, year after year.

We want our bulls to be structurally sound, wide-based, deep-ribbed, and good-footed — with muscle, longevity, and enough grow to make them stand out without sacrificing functionality. Our females are expected to be fertile, efficient, and raise a heavy calf while holding condition. If they don’t work, they don’t stay.

We prioritize cattle with moderate birth weights, solid maternal strength, and the kind of structure that holds up under pressure. Our selection decisions are made with discipline and backed by generations of experience — not spreadsheets or sales talk.

This program is built to produce consistent, reliable Angus genetics that make a difference in your pasture, not just on paper.
